Description A map of 'Scotia' by the Venetian Tommaso Porcacchi (1530-1585?). It appeared in his 'L'Isole Piu Famose del Mondo' of 1572 and in later editions between 1576 and 1686. The engraver was the artist Girolamo Porro from Padua, who was also renowned for his design of a flying machine.This is an improved outline when compared with other maps (e.g., George Lily's of 1546) though it does still include the mythical island of Hirtha. Several islands are also placed in new positions, such as Islay ...
