Description Árið 1528 kom út í Feneyjum bók eftir Benedetto Bordone sem nefnist Libro di Benedetto Bordone nel qual si ragiona de tutte l'Isole del mondo con li lor nomi antichi & moderni. Í síðari útgáfum var nafni hennar breytt í Isolario eða eyjalýsing. Í bókinni eru 110 tréskurðarkort, flest af einstökum eyjum vítt og breitt um heiminn. Hún er merkur áfangi í íslenskri kortasögu því að í henni birtist í fyrsta skipti svo vitað sé sérkort af Íslandi í prentuðu riti. Í texta sem fylgir með segir m. a. að Ísland sé eyja norðvestur í hafi. Á kortinu eru vegalengdir mestar frá austri til vesturs og landið verður mjórra eftir því sem vestar dregur. Kortið hefur engin örnefni en á ströndinni eru sjö byggingar sem eiga eflaust að tákna borgir. Þessi Íslandsgerð á líklega uppruna sinn að rekja til kortanna sem fylgdu Landafræði Ptolemeusar. Það kort sem sýnt er hér er úr endurprentun bókarinnar frá 1547.
In the year 1528 Benedetto Bordone published a book, Libro di Benedetto Bordone nel qual si ragiona de tutte l'Isole del mondo con li lor nomi antichi & moderni, in Venice. In later editions the name was changed to Isolario or description of islands. The book is a very important stepping-stone in the history of cartography of Iceland because this is probably the first time that a special map of Iceland appears in a printed book. On the map the distance is most between east and west, it has no place-names and the seven buildings on the coast should probably represent cities. The shape of Iceland is like the one on the maps that accompanied Ptolemy's Geography. The map shown here is from a 1547 edition of the book.
