Description Endurprentun Nobilis á Fríslandskorti franska kortagerðarmannsins Antonio Lafreri. Fríslandi bregður fyrir á mörgum gömlum kortum sem sýna Norður-Atlantshaf og löndin þar í kring. Fræðimenn hafa löngum deilt um hvað eyjan eigi að tákna. Flestir töldu fyrst að hún væri Færeyjar en aðrir sögðu hana tvífara Íslands. En nú telja menn líklegast að hún sé sambland úr báðum löndum. Frísland kom fyrst fram undir því nafni á Zeno-kortinu svonefnda frá 1558. Þessi uppdráttur er greinilega eftirmynd af hluta af því korti.
Frisland appears as a name of an island south of Iceland on many old maps depicting the North Atlantic region. In Nicolo Zeno's book and map of 1558 it is very prominent. Frisland was probably an amalgamation of Iceland and the Faroes and the double of both of them.This map is a re-print of Antonio Lafreri's map of Frisland who in turn probably had the Zeno map as model.
