Description Matthias Quad var einn af þeim fyrstu sem tóku hina nýju Íslandsgerð Abrahams Orteliusar sér til fyrirmyndar. Quad var mikilvirkur kortagerðarmaður en kort hans þykja ekki að sama skapi vel gerð, í stað fíngerðra eirstungna Orteliusar eru komnar þunglamalegar tréskurðarmyndir. Kortasafn hans stóðst því ekki samkeppnina til lengdar og útgáfu þess var brátt hætt.Þegar litið er á kortið kemur í ljós að það er minnkuð eftirmynd af Íslandskorti Orteliusar. Nöfn eru allmiklu færri, eitt skrímslanna kemst ekki til skila og Grímsey er horfin, hún hefur orðið að víkja fyrir titilfeldi kortsins. Í neðra horni þess til hægri er mynd af Kristjáni konungi IV en mörg korta Quads voru prýdd myndum af slíkum tignarmönnum.
Matthias Quad was one of the first to adopt the new version of Iceland which Abraham Ortelius printed in 1590. Quad was a efficient cartographer but not at the same time very proficient, in stead of the fine engravings done by Ortelius we have wood-carvings.When we look at the map we see that it is a copy, reduced in size, of Ortelius' map. Place-names are fewer and one of the monsters is gone. In the bottom right hand corner there is a picture of Christian IV who was king of Denmark at that time.
